This Long Eared Owl is hand carved from one piece of Beech Wood by myself Cameron Livingstone, I am a traditional Scottish wood artist with a passion for nature & specialising in many aspects of animal wooden art.
The Owl is carved to scale & looks very realistic, perched on a tree stump with its piercing orange eyes and slender pose replicating the natural look in the wild.
To create this unique piece, the process begins by using a chainsaw to establish the ruff shape, I then use chisels & rotary tools too sculpt the fine detailing, to further enhance the life-like look I use a wood burning pen and highlights added using acrylic paints. The Long Eared Owl has very detailed feathers and was a great challenge to replicate.
The measurements of the sculpture including the base :
Height - 42cm
Width - 13cm
depth - 12cm
The Beech Wood is quarter sawn, which is the most stable part of the timber.
To protect & ensure the quality for years to come the owl is finished with a matt varnish.
Please be assured that this is a unique one of a kind creation, I never create the same design twice, it comes signed by myself on the base.
This would be a perfect gift for a bird of prey enthusiast.
